I'm a birth and postpartum doula and midwife assistant. My interest in midwifery care started with my first pregnancy in 2009. Because I was unaware of the benefits of home birth, my first and second daughters were born in the hospital under the care of an obstetrician. After the birth of my second daughter and some complications from the epidural, I made the decision that I would deliver at home under the care of midwives from that point on. Having a baby in the comfort of home just seemed more practical.
A family member gave me the contact information for Birthstream Midwifery and nine months later, I had a healthy baby girl in the comfort of my home with exceptional care from Rachel Fox-Tierney and Rachel Kiene. They spent time with me at my prenatal appointments getting to know me and my family, educating me about my health and how it affected my unborn daughter. They empowered me and helped me to find complete autonomy over my body, my pregnancy and birth experience. After my daughter Rozie’Ana was born, I knew I wanted to provide the same level of care to other expecting mothers.
Since then I’ve been trained as a Midwife Assistant where I’ve assisted midwives in home birth practice and at a free-standing birth center. I work on the weekends as a Birth Educator at California Birth Center in Rocklin, California, and part-time as a Birth and Postpartum Doula. My ultimate goal is to become a midwife, and I am looking forward to enrolling in school this year.
